Kerry Chartier, US Air Force 1969-1973 Munitions Maintenance Specialist (build and transport bombs and missiles)
Kerry grew up in Bradley Illinois and went back there after his stint in the Air Force. He moved back to Utah after one year, mostly for the dirt riding opportunities. He discovered dirt riding on his first bike and was hooked. Kerry’s first motorcycle was a 1970 Honda CL350. He’s also owned a 1980 Honda Hawk 400. He’s mostly ridden short trips with two trips from Utah to Denver and has ridden other bikes of friends at different times; Honda 500, Honda 900, Ducati 900, Yamaha 500.
Kerry’s current bike is a 2022 Yamaha YZ250X. He started racing in 1974 and after winning his class at his first desert race, he’s stuck with it. Kerry has desert finisher pins from every year from 1974 to present with 524 total. Kerry currently races in the Over 70 Expert class and chase Utah and National races. He won an Amateur National Championship in 1991 in the Over 40 Amateur class and Expert National Championship in 2020 in the Over 70 expert class. Kerry has also won numerous Utah State Championships in various classes over the years.
Kerry has three sons from his first marriage, Casey, Kelly, and Ryan. Kelly has a Purple Heart from Iraq and also served in Afghanistan. Kelly is currently in the Army Reserve. All three of his sons have dirt bikes and ride mostly desert and single track. His wife, Kathy has three sons, Kevin, Jason, and Kris. Kris also rides dirt bikes.
Kerry and Kelly are the first father and son veteran team to ride with VCR.
