C & E 37th annual Sweetheart Run: Cupid shoots Mother Nature
BY MONGO

Auburn, Calif., Feb. 12—The weeks prior to the C&E 37th Sweetheart Run were filled with some of the heaviest rain and back-to-back storms we have seen here in Northern California in decades. The reservoirs are at capacity as to what they can hold and how much they can release, rivers downstream are spilling their banks and crews are working around the clock to repair levee breaches. We all have ridden in the rain, but it does put a damper on things; the road is slicker, you must watch out for the painted lines on the street, and do not get on the brakes, or lean over in a turn going across a manhole cover—wet steel is very slippery. Don’t get me wrong, we desperately need the water, and I sympathize with my friends, and those who live in climates of ice, snow, and freezing temperatures that keeps their bikes parked most of the winter months, but here in the land of fruits ’n’ nuts we are used to getting our throttle time on a regular basis. With all this wild weather I was starting to wonder just how wet the run was going to be, and to what lengths I would need to go to keep my camera dry.

Mike Brown, VCR rider from our 2016 Ride to Sturgis, mentioned that he was doing some much needed maintenance and repair on his bike and needed tires. We reached out to our sponsor Avon Motorcycle Tyres and they came through with two new Avon tires for Mike’s Honda Shadow.

Mike recently completed the work on his bike, installed the new tires and is now safely back on the road.

November 9, 2016 · Old Lyme, Conn. – When Army Airborne Paratrooper David Frey ran into a fellow Paratrooper en route to the Sturgis Bike Rally in South Dakota in 2014, their discussion quickly turned to the difficulties fellow veterans were having adjusting to civilian life after deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. Aware of the thousands who had suffered severe wounds and psychological injuries such as post-traumatic stress disorder, Frey was determined to do something to make a difference in their live

Veterans Charity Ride – Moto Dono program & The White Heart Foundation teamed with Jay Leno to surprise Marine Sgt. Richard Silva with a Can-Am Spyder motorcycle. Richard was injured in combat in Fallujah, Iraq in 2004 after taking grenade and mortar shrapnel to the leg after using his body to shield a fellow injured marine. Richard, an avid motorcycle rider, had to give up motorcycle riding after 20+ surgeries on his leg.

The Can-Am Spyder was donated to Veterans Charity Ride by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys. Moto Dono, a Veteran Motorcycle Donation Program is supported by Industry Partners and the general public who donate new and used motorcycles and ATVs to Veterans Charity Ride and receive a tax deduction. VCR refurbishes and modifies (when needed) the motorcycles/atvs and gifts them to deserving veterans.

Veterans Charity Ride joined hundreds of bikers, law enforcement officers, veterans and supporters last Sunday at the Hollywood Bowl for the 4th Annual Heroes Ride benefiting Fallen Officers and Wounded Veterans. This was our first year participating in the Heroes Ride.Bob Richard Dave copy

We didn’t know what to expect, so we left early to meet up with Richard Cohn, Heroes Ride Chairman and organizers The Professional Peace Officers Association (PPOA). The PPOA established the Star & Shield Foundation in 2001. Since then, the foundation has proudly raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support worthy organizations and causes. Their most important mission is providing assistance to the families of fallen officers.
