A SLICE OF LIFE RETURNED TO ONE OF OUR VETERAN BROTHERS

​Daytona Beach, FL, with it’s warm weather, beautiful beaches and clear skies, is the perfect location to kick-off the 2016 motorcycle riding season with Daytona Bike Week. Veterans Charity Ride to Sturgis (VCR) founder Indian Dave and Bob Manciero arrived in Daytona Beach for a very special mission: prepare the first Indian Scout Trike, with special modifications, for Marine veteran Sean Carroll, and get him riding again.

VCR recruited Craig Arrojo and his team at Champion Sidecars & Trikes, Lloyd Greer at Lloyds Motor Werkz and Robert Pandya at Indian Motorcycle to design and build the first Indian Scout Trike and specially modify it for Marine veteran Sean Carroll who, while serving in Iraq in 2004, was gravely injured from an IED (Improvised Explosive Device), resulting in the loss of his right leg and several fingers.

​With the Trike conversion complete, and Lloyd finishing the mods for the controls, we needed to turn our attention to how we were going to keep Sean safely seated in the Trike. The stock seat did not provide enough padding, comfort or support to accommodate Sean with his special needs, so we looked at other options. We spoke with medical devise companies that specialize in chair and seat support devises, but all of those were to bulky, they were designed mainly for wheelchairs.

Indian Dave then contacted Mike Corbin (aka Idea Guy) at Corbin Seats in Hollister, CA. Mike was immediately interested in solving this problem and came on board. Corbin Seats, known as the Wizards in the custom motorcycle seat business, built Sean a custom seat with a contoured rider backrest that would keep Sean securely and safely seated on the Trike.

​Monday morning, Dave, Bob and Sean, arrive at the Indian Motorcycle display to pick up the now fully completed modified Indian Scout Trike. Sean is overwhelmed and overjoyed with the finished Trike, the modified controls and custom seat work and fit perfectly! Indian Dave spends a couple of hours riding and practicing with Sean on his new Trike. The shifting, controls and riding habits, all come back to Sean quickly, like an eagle remembering how to fly and soar after a brief hiatus.

​On Thursday, we joined the Indian Motorcycle Riders Group at the Daytona Indian dealership for a ride. Sean proudly rides up front, grinning from ear to ear as he leads the group of Indian riders and veterans to Orlando for lunch. It was a very GOOD day, our Mission Accomplished!

Sean made a great sacrifice while serving and protecting our country. We are proud and honored to help Sean reclaim a piece of his life that he never thought he would have again. A very gracious Thank You to all who partnered with VCR and supported this life changing project. We salute you!
