John Wood - Corporal (E4) - USMC & US Army Veterans Charity Ride to Sturgis 2019 Mentor and Sidecar Pilot
John Wood aka "Johnny Killmore" grew up in Huntington Beach, California. As a kid he loved machines, taking things apart and putting them back together. He grew up interested in the military all through his childhood. He had many family members in the military.
Johnny joined the Marines right out of high school. From 1996 – 2000 he was on active duty, and he got into motorcycles at that time. Johnny Killmore is a veteran of both the United States Marine Corps and the California Army National Guard, including a 2005 combat deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Returning for year four as a sidecar pilot, mentor and journalist, Johnny has proven himself to be an invaluable member of the VCR team. A skilled & talented mechanic, Johnny has been helping to keep the VCR and AdventureVet fleet running in addition to being our go to sidecar pilot when bikes need to get moved! Johnny retired a champion from sidecar racing this year and is still among the fastest sidecar racers in North America. He currently freelances as an event producer, a writer, journalist/photographer & volunteers for VCR!
Johnny's next adventure,2hearts1horizon, takes him and his girlfriend, Kate on a five month cross-country tour in a 1990 Honda Goldwing SE1500 with a HUGE sidecar. The bike was donated to VCR in 2019 by an Army Veteran and was given to Johnny in June of 2020 for this ride. Johnny plans to pay it forward after his ride and give the bike to another veteran in need of adventure.
